Drawables

In X, a drawable is a destination for a graphics request. A window is one such destination, the other is a pixmap. A pixmap is an area of memory used to represent a window. Like a window, a pixmap has pixels and depth, but unlike a window, it does not have attributes such as a colourmap. A pixmap is used to manipulate images off-screen and must be copied to a window for the image to be visible.
