Gender roles are realities in almost everyone's life. In society it means how we’re expected to act, speak, dress, groom, and conduct ourselves based upon our assigned sex at birth. They can be cultural and personal. These gender schemas are frameworks regarding what defines masculinity and femininity. And based on that they create what we call gender stereotypes .
Gender stereotypes are simplistic generalizations about the gender attributes, differences, and roles of individuals or groups. Stereotypes can be positive or negative, but they rarely communicate accurate information about others. Stereotypes about gender can cause unequal and unfair treatment because of a person’s gender, which leads to sexism. Many people recognize the danger of gender stereotyping, yet continue to make these types of generalizations. These sorts of stereotypes can prove harmful and they can stifle individual expression and creativity, as well as personal and professional growth.
