Some habits or social behaviors may be falsely identified as an addiction. But in the case of an actual addiction, once you don't get the thing you are addicted to, you typically have some sort of a negative reaction. For example, someone addicted to coffee can experience severe headaches and irritability if they go without coffee for a longer time. These negative reactions are called withdrawal symptoms.
